Flow diagram: A5 landscape booklet production, circa 450 mm web
Web speed 100 m/min
The circa 450mm web is cut into sheets with a length 307mm. These 8-page sheets enter the Smart-binder (SB) infeed and the bar code on each sheet is read. Each sheet is accurately side-registered and the Smart-binder plow-folds each sheet down the center. ISG cold glue may be applied along the inside of each folded sheet (SB-3 only) and the sheets collect together on top of each other on the saddle (max approx 25 sheets, 100 pages, depending on paper weight and the type of center-knife used).
If a separately-fed cover is needed, then this will feed automatically from the optional cover feeder CIF-102 and is folded on top of the inside sheets. The sheets are wire-stitched (if stitching is required) using 4 stitch heads, 3-side trimmed and center-cut to produce two A5 landscape booklets side-by-side.
Booklets may be stacked by the optional BSS-10, with additional 2-up stacking option, if required.
Note: each sheet contains 8 pages (4 per booklet) so each booklet must have a multiple of 4-pages.
Using F-100 buckle-folder to increase web speed to up to 150 m/min (number of pages in each finished booklet must be divisible by 8)
The circa 450 mm web is cut into sheets with a length 614mm. These 16-page sheets enter the F-100 buckle folder and are buckle-folded in half (to 307mm length). A line of cold glue dots is applied to the center of each sheet if cold-glue bound booklets are needed. The folded sheets are fed into the Smart-binder (SB).
The bar code on each sheet is read. Each sheet is accurately side-registered and the SB plow-folds each sheet down the center. ISG cold glue may be applied along the inside of each folded sheet (SB-3 only) if cold-glue bound booklets are needed, and the sheets collect together on top of each other on the saddle (max approx 96 pages per booklet, depending on paper weight and type of center-knife used).
If a separately-fed cover is needed, then this will feed automatically from the optional cover feeder CIF-102 and is folded on top of the inside sheets. Sheets are wire-stitched (if stitching is required) using 4 stitch heads, and 3-side trimmed. The CKN center-trimmer cuts the double-size booklet into two landscape format A5 booklets. Booklets may be stacked on the optional BSS-10 if required.
Note: each sheet contains 16 pages (8 per booklet) so each booklet must have a multiple of 8-pages.
Using F-200 buckle folder to increase web speed to 150 m/min (number of pages in each finished booklet can be divisible by 4)
The circa 450 mm web is cut into sheets with a length 614mm (16 pages per sheet) or 921mm (24 pages per sheet). These sheets enter the F-200 buckle folder and are buckle-folded either once or twice (to 307mm length).
ISG cold glue may be applied along the inside of each folded sheet (SB-3 only) if cold-glue bound booklets are needed, and the sheets collect together on top of each other on the saddle (max approx 160 pages, depending on paper weight).
If a separately-fed cover is needed, then this will feed automatically from the optional cover feeder CIF-102 and is folded on top of the inside sheets. Sheets are wire-stitched (if stitching is required) using 4 stitch heads, and 3-side trimmed. The CKN center-trimmer cuts the double-size booklet into two landscape format booklets. Booklets may be stacked on the optional BSS-10 if required.
Note: Using either 16 page sheets (with single buckle-fold), and/or 24 page sheets (double buckle-fold), that are then center-cut, booklets with multiples of 4-pages are possible, rather than restricted to multiples of 8-pages when using the F-100 folder. For example a booklet with 28 pages can be produced using two 16 page sheets and one 24 page sheet, which after a center-cut results in two 28 page booklets, ie a multiple of 4 pages.
