Missing stitch detection system MSD-100

The MSD-100 missing stitch detection system is fitted as standard to all Smart-binders from serial number #195 onwards (manufactured from Autumn 2022), and may be available for field retrofit on some older Smart-binders.

The system includes a sensor which is mounted over the booklet spine and detects the wire metal in the staples. To ensure the sensor accurately detects the presence of the wire staples it is necessary to change the saddle-skirts and the gripper back-up bar to a synthetic material.

If a staple is detected as being missing then the Smart-binder will reject this booklet. The machine will stop automatically, and display a message on the touch screen, if there are a 3 or 4 consecutive rejected booklets with missing staples.
